The Newhall Ranch Road Bridge-widening project is going to be discussed Tuesday, and  construction contracts are expected to be awarded.

Located a quarter-mile west of McBean Parkway, the bridge is located over San Francisquito Creek in Valencia and is adjacent to the San Francisquito and Newhall Ranch Road bike trails.

The project would widen the bridge from three lanes in each direction to four, and would also include a raised median, barrier protected sidewalk on the north side and barrier protected sidewalk and shared-use path on the south side.

Other additions to the bridge will include new street lights, a bus turnout on the south side of the road and a San Francisquito Creek Trail gap connection in the west bank below the bridge.

The bridge expansion is set to improve vehicle, pedestrian and cyclist safety and accommodation, according to the city council agenda.

Over $11 million will be awarded to Security Paving Company, Inc., over $1 million directed to construction support contracts and other project transactions should the Santa Clarita City Council approve the motion.

  1. Will it take a longer time than building the Golden Gate bridge or Commerce Drive bridge?
