Some of the biggest issues seniors struggle with are loneliness, isolation and depression, making a connection tool like the GrandPad potentially life-changing.

“It’s an amazing tool,” said Myles McNamara, president of Comfort Keepers Home Care Santa Clarita. “Comfort Keepers is very proud to make the national alliance with GrandPad to get these into the homes of seniors, to connect families, to prevent the isolation, the depression, the loneliness. It’s a huge issue.”‘GrandPad’ Connects Santa Clarita Seniors And Their Families With One Touch

Designed specifically for seniors, the GrandPad features a stylus that works with large-sized, one-touch buttons for video calls, emails, games, music and more.

“This can work with a wide range of independence with our seniors,” McNamara said. “I’ve heard families say, ‘Oh, well we’ve tried to get the iPad.’ This is not an iPad… They say, ‘Oh, Mom can’t even do a remote control.’ Trust me, this is a lot easier than a remote control.”

Email features are talk-to-text so the user doesn’t have to work a keyboard, and the GrandPad even charges wirelessly on a charging stand so there are no cords to plug in.

McNamara noted the most popular features of the GrandPad are video calls and photo exchange, which can be made between contacts added by a designated admin through a closed family network.

“It’s all one-touch for the admin, one-touch for the senior,” he explained. “It doesn’t matter where the grandkids are, doesn’t matter where the adult kids are — they can see the photos, they can do the video chat.”

SCV residents interested in purchasing a GrandPad for their senior loved one this holiday season can stop by Comfort Keepers Home Care Santa Clarita for more information, whether their family member is in need of home care or not.

“We’re going to try to get one of these in all of our clients’ homes, and even if they’re not on service with us, they can contact us, we can set them up, get this in their home,” McNamara said. “Maybe they’re not ready for home care yet, but everybody’s ready to connect with their families.”
