Located on a private stretch of the Ruby River, Ruby Springs Lodge offers guests superb fishing opportunities and some of the best Montana fly fishing guides available in a tranquil setting that couldn’t feel farther from the big city.
“If you’re a fly fisher person, you definitely know Montana,” said David Thompson, a spokesperson for Ruby Springs Lodge. “It’s one of the few places that has really world-class wild trout fish. They’re not stocked, they are born and bred here in the rivers, and that’s hard to find anymore.”

Ruby Springs Lodge opened in Montana in 1994 with a goal of being able to offer great guided fly fishing in addition to first-class dining and premium accommodations.
“It’s in the middle of some of the prettiest scenery you will find anywhere, right on the banks of the Ruby River,” Thompson said. “It’s only 16 people, (so) it’s a very quiet, intimate kind of setting.”
Those who have never fly fished before can learn from an experienced guide, with plenty of opportunities for simply relaxing and enjoying the beautiful scenery, hiking, horseback riding and more.
“I think one of the amazing things about Ruby is they have terrific guides who are on-hand to teach people and take them out right away,” Thompson said. “There’s plenty of people that really enjoy fishing some and then sitting back in the drift boat, maybe you’re with your guide and looking at the scenery.”
He continued, “There’s always tremendous wildlife, there’s great photo opportunities, there’s wonderful streamside lunches that the guides prepare for you… Really the fishing is about the whole experience.”
No vacation would be complete without top quality food, which Ruby Springs Lodge prides itself on providing along with a superb wine list, according to Thompson.
“What the chef there is able to produce on a daily basis is truly outstanding,” he said. “One of things that I’ve always heard of guests going there is that their expectation in terms of food was notably exceeded, so it’s a wonderful way to end a rugged day outdoors.”
