Fire Department officials responded to a call of a car over the side of the road near San Francisquito Canyon Road and Dry Gulch around 6:30 p.m., said Supervisor Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Emergency personnel, including members of the Santa Clarita Valley’s Search and Rescue Team, worked for nearly an hour to try to rescue a man trapped in his vehicle, Pittman said.

The victim, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was declared dead at 7:19 p.m., he said.

The identity of the driver was not immediately available. A coroner’s officials said Saturday the victim was  a 39-year-old Hispanic man whose name was not being released pending next-of-kin notification.

Search and Rescue Team personnel were still on the scene as of 7:45 p.m.

Traffic is impacted in the area both north- and southbound on San Francisquito Canyon Road.
