Canyon Country Man Charged In Court With Killing Father

A Canyon Country man is due in Los Angeles Superior Court in San Fernando today, and his father is dead, after a Thursday night shooting on at the 19000 block of Newhouse Street in Canyon Country.

Homicide Bureau detectives worked with Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detectives to find Juan Alexander Mejia, 30, of Canyon Country, on charges that he fatally shot his father.

After a special bulletin was put out by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Mejia was found Saturday afternoon.

The public’s help was part of the reason why deputies were able to find and detain their suspect for questioning, according to a sergeant with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

He was found Saturday and is due in court Monday for his arraignment on murder charges. He was being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station in lieu of $1 million bail.

The 30-year-old Juan Alexander Mejia is being charged with the murder of 53-year-old Juan Mejia.

Dubon was found around 4 p.m., getting into a vehicle on Santa Clara Road, Nagler said.

Detectives have learned that the suspect, 31-year-old Dubon, arrived home intoxicated and began to argue with his parents at their home on the 19000 block of Newhouse Street in Canyon Country on Thursday night.

 He is believed to be the lone suspect in this crime, however, no other details are being release

He produced a gun and shot his father in the head, according to a Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau detectives.

The incident occurred Thursday at approximately 11:47 p.m. in Canyon Country.

The weapon used in the crime has not yet been recovered by Sheriff’s Station deputies, according to previous reports.

He was booked and being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“We got information that he was over in the Canyon Country area,” Nagler said. “And when we got over there, we found him and detained him.”

Juan Alexander Mejia is described as a Hispanic man, 5 feet, 2 inches tall, approximately 117 pounds.
