This year, “Santa Clarita Diet” once again returned to Netflix and brought along with it the return of stars Olyphant and Barrymore as the “adults” of the Hammond Family, who continue to struggle with Barrymore’s character, Sheila, making the unexplainable transition to a member of the “undead.”

Real estate agents by day and murderers by night (or whenever Sheila is overcome with the urge to eat human flesh), the two parents along with their daughter, Abby (played by Liv Hewson), and next door neighbor, Eric (played by Skyler Gisondo), must evade capture for their crimes while also attempting to find a cure for Sheila’s “undeadness.”

Along with being able to see familiar haunts and locations from around Santa Clarita, audience members who paid close attention could note a number of jokes only people from “Awesometown” would understand.

Whether joking that the Serbian guy from Craiglist who is selling his bile “of course” lives in Newhall, to characters arguing on whether it’s faster to take McBean or cut across on Magic Mountain Pkwy., the writers of “Santa Clarita Diet” made an entertaining, yet comical showcasing of their knowledge about the town they’ve set their show in.

Between scenes in Newhall to Canyon Country to Stevenson Ranch, the show is riddled with fun moments for locals as well as making topical allusions to real life issues facing Santa Clarita.

While not a show suitable for children, “Santa Clarita Diet” provides a narrative about Santa Clarita that is fresh yet outrageous, and, oftentimes, satirical yet truthful.

“Santa Clarita Diet” is a binge-watch type of show that may surprise adult audiences over a weekend spent at home here in the Santa Clarita Valley — regardless of a person’s interest in the zombie drama.

Seasons One and Two of “Santa Clarita Diet” are available for streaming for Netflix subscribers.

As a resident of Saugus for almost 40years I can tell you we’re just like every other town with crime , drugs , suicides and gangs. Good article about the show my wife and I enjoy it .
