According to the Legal Information Institute, the Eighth Amendment states, “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.”
“The Eighth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution requires that bail not be excessive,” said Inessa Chavez, vice president of All American Bail Bonds in Santa Clarita. “This means that bail should not be used to simply raise money for the government, or to punish a person for being suspected of a crime.”
This clause was modeled after the English Bill of Rights, which has a similar clause prohibiting the use of excessive bail.

The purpose of bail is to allow individuals to be released from jail after they are arrested for allegedly committing a crime, and to maintain their freedom while their court case is in progress.
The Los Angeles County Bail Schedule determines the amount of bail in Santa Clarita, and the bail schedule is updated every year.
After a person is arrested and charged with a crime, law enforcement officials check the crime’s bail amount on the schedule in order to determine the correct bail amount.

“If you can’t afford the full bail amount up front, which many people can’t, you can purchase a surety bond from a bail bonding company like All American Bail Bonds in Santa Clarita,” Chavez said. “Then you would only pay 10 percent to the bail bonding company, who will post the bail for you.”
All American Bail Bonds in Santa Clarita also offers $0 down payment plans and 20 percent rebates for those who qualify in the case that an individual can’t afford to pay the full 10 percent.
“We want to work with you to ensure your loved one’s speedy release from jail,” Chavez said. “That’s why we’re here.”
