Here is a breakdown of the process of the what happens after a criminal arrest, like many that All American Bail Bonds in Santa Clarita deal with daily.

There are several steps in the criminal arrest process.

“A criminal arrest can be complicated,” said Inessa Chavez, vice president of All American Bail Bonds in Santa Clarita. “Many times, they go to trial.”

The whole process begins with an arrest.  A law enforcement official makes an arrest based on probable cause that the suspect has committed a criminal offense.

“At our All American Bail Bonds in Santa Clarita location, the arresting agency is the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station under the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department,” Chavez said.

A criminal offense can be an infraction or misdemeanor such as assault or petty theft. A criminal offense can be a felony as well which including crimes of selling drugs or grand theft.

After an arrest and the evidence is presented to the district attorney’s office, an official with the district attorney’s office can decide whether or not to file a complaint.

If a deputy district attorney decides to file a complaint, the case will go into the arraignment phase where the suspect will be advised of their rights.

This is where bail bonds agencies like All American Bail Bonds come in. The suspect often times can be released on bail until their preliminary hearing date.

This is followed by a preliminary hearing where evidence will be presented to the judge. If the judge feels that there is a probable cause to support the charges, the defendant will then be able to enter a plea.

This is followed by a pretrial, trial and sentencing. Sometimes, there are collateral offenses.

The defendant may file an appeal if they feel the court made an error.

Many times, the defendant will be able to serve some time and then be released on parole or even be expunged or have the crime be removed from their record.
