This year’s show, held at the Los Angeles Convention Center in downtown Los Angeles, offers visitors the chance to ogle more than 30 World, North American and concept car debuts.

The event features hundreds of other cars also on display, with electrics, luxury and SUVs and crossovers as the biggest draws. There’s plenty of fun, too.

The importance of the L.A. Auto Show was underscored by the news that one in 10 cars bought in the United States is purchased in California.

 Mini Superleggera Vision

Perhaps the most intriguing and “feel good” car at the L.A. Auto Show this year is the Mini Cooper concept car, the Mini Superleggera Vision roadster. A car the company calls “British with an Italian accent.”

This was the first appearance in the United States of the Mini Superleggera Vision roadster concept car which is a collaboration with Touring Superleggera.

The 90-year-old coach building company was tapped to add Italian style and “hand craftsmanship” to the British roadster.

The super-sexy Superleggera Vision is an open-coach convertible with a sheer, curved windshield and a startling center fin splitting its trunk. Sadly, this gorgeous concept is just that… a “concept.” It may never make it to the dealership floor.

Lexus LF-C2

Also making waves at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show is the Lexus LF-C2 Concept. This eye-catcher features a color that is impossible to describe along with a bold design that shows of a slightly sinister front grille and angular front headlights as well as a drop top design.

It is unlikely this concept will ever hit the showroom floor however, as Lexus dealers would rather have another crossover to sell instead.

Powerful SUVs are all the rage at the 2014 L.A. Auto Show with BMW, Mercedes, Cadillac and Porsche introducing six new high-performance versions of existing vehicles.

BMW introduced two updated high-performance SUVs, the X5 M and the X6 M, both with a twin-turbo V8 that puts out the 567 horsepower — 267 more than a standard X5.

The X5 M starts at nearly $100,000, over $46,000 above the current base X5. Both new 2015 M SUVs hit showrooms in the spring.
