As summer turned into fall, Nola Aronson from Advanced Audiology made a variety of contributions to at least five nonprofits from the Santa Clarita community, with the list continuing to grow.

“I like to very involved in my community,” Aronson said. “We are a very giving community as a whole, and I just feel to participate in this community, you should give back, and so I try to choose charities that mean something to me.”
In a single weekend this month, Aronson sponsored both the 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the Circle of Hope Afternoon Tea, two causes she says are close to her heart.

“Alzheimer’s is important because not only do I have a family member with Alzheimer’s, but we have a lot of seniors that I deal with (at Advanced Audiology) that have Alzheimer’s, and they also have trouble hearing,” Aronson said. “They have related those two things.”
As for Circle of Hope, Aronson noted she is a 17-year breast cancer survivor and feels that the organization does a great job helping people who are in the same position she was in, but might not have access to the same healthcare options that she did.
“Luckily for me, I had good insurance, so I was able to be taken care of,” Aronson said. “For the people that aren’t able to get the kind of care that I did, I want to help them so that we have all survivors.”
As a former special education teacher, another cause Aronson is passionate about is helping children, particularly in terms of literacy. And so in June, Aronson donated 250 fiction books to the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley and made a monetary donation of $2,500.
“You need two incomes in families nowadays to survive, a lot of mothers can’t be home like my mother was,” she said. “When nobody’s there, the Boys & Girls Club is such a wonderful option because it gives you something to do, you have friends, they help you with your homework and do all those kinds of things.”
Then in September, Aronson decided to help fill a gap she says is growing in today’s school system in terms of extracurricular activities like art and music.
When she learned about a youth foundation for dance that was recently created by the owners of D’Wilfri DanceArt and Entertainment in Santa Clarita, Aronson made a donation to send a number of children from several organizations to dance class for free.
“They don’t only teach dance, they teach feeling good about yourself,” she said. “I had just come from the Boys & Girls Club tour, so I started to think, now how can this relate?”
Aronson dedicated her donation toward sending about 20 kids from the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley, as well as a group of teenage girls from Soroptimist International’s “Go Girls” program, to the program’s dance classes.
Lastly — for now, at least — Aronson made a sizeable donation to the new Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center to have a room named after her at the end of September.
“I realize I’m doing more and more,” Aronson said. “It used to be one each month, but I’m having fun doing this and I feel really good about it, and I’m able to do it… It’s fun to try to juggle all this.”

Nola and her husband, Steve, are amazing individuals on many levels. I’m happy to be a friend of many years and continue to be impressed with her/their compassion and commitment to helping others in Santa Clarita.
