With a growing number of seniors choosing not to get a hearing aid because of the cost, Santa Clarita audiologist Nola Aronson of Advanced Audiology is asking how anyone can afford not to hear.

“Everybody automatically says they’re too expensive,” Aronson said. “Well how can you afford not to hear? Do you want to miss what your grandchildren are saying? Do you want to have arguments with your spouse because you’re not hearing each other?”
While some people may turn to a big box store for lower prices, Aronson cautioned that store employees typically view hearing aids as a commodity, like tires for the car.

“They’re not a commodity — they are a medical device, and they have to be fit properly. It’s not all about price,” she said. “People take their hearing aids out and don’t wear them because they’re not programmed right, so how much money are you really saving?”
In contrast, Advanced Audiology offers complete hearing packages that not only offer expert programming and fitting for each individual, but free batteries, free service and help whenever needed.
Advanced Audiology also offers the latest technology not available at big box stores, according to Aronson.
“Those stores have two-year-old technology, so don’t be fooled that you’re getting the exact same product,” she said.
Aronson noted that state law requires a 45-day test drive on hearing aids, and encouraged residents to compare their results from a big box store with that of service from Advanced Audiology.
“See for yourself,” she said. “Do your shopping the correct way, not just by price, because that’s going to hurt you in the long run… Communication is so important in life — how can you put a price on that?”
