“I decided to do (the open house) this year mostly as a thank you to my clients, and to give them the opportunity to bring guests that maybe they haven’t brought in to just check the space out and see some of the stuff before they try,” said Wendy Hassenpflug, Vayu Yoga’s owner and host of the KHTS AM-1220 radio show, “Vibrant Living.”

“Some people are kind of hesitant when it comes to the idea of wall yoga or acro-yoga or aerial yoga,” she added, “so (we’re) giving them the ability to see it done and performed in person, and to ask questions.”

The most unique demonstration held during the event was “Vayu Yoga Suspended,” or aerial yoga, which Hassenpflug calls her “trademark technique.”

“It is a therapeutic technique in that the hammock is used to support the body in all kinds of poses,” she said. “The fabric facilities mostly in support for back bends and inversions, which are two things that most yogis don’t do on a regular basis unless they’re pretty strong and flexible. So the nice thing is that most of my clients, even people with some limitations, are able to do back bends and inversions.”

Hassenpflug’s innovative form of aerial yoga is the only kind like it in the Santa Clarita Valley, she added, and most aerial yoga offered in the San Fernando Valley utilizes entirely different styles.

Vayu Yoga instructors emphasize the importance of individualized attention during their group classes, which usually only include up to eight participants.

“More or less I call it small group training because you get individualized attention,” Hassenpflug said. “You’re not going to be hidden in a room of 30 or 40 and be ignored– you’re going to get attention that’s personalized and speicalized for the people that are in the room that day.”
