Initial investigation indicates Susan Munoz, 22, of Castaic, was driving a 2010 Mazda southbound on the Old Road, north of Hillcrest Parkway, according to a preliminary California Highway Patrol report.

For an unknown reason, Munoz crossed into the northbound lane and was in a minor sideswipe collision with Jessica Rausch, 28, of Castaic, who was driving a 2010 Toyota, according to CHP officials. Rausch continued northbound, while Munoz continued southbound still within the northbound lane.

Moments later, a second collision occurred, according to CHP officials. This collision was head on in nature between Munoz and a 1991 Nissan.

The passenger of the Nissan, Kimberly Milligan, 30, of Canyon Country and Munoz were extricated and transported by AMR to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, according to CHP officials. The driver of the Nissan succumbed to his injuries on scene.

Officials with the Coroner’s Office wouldn’t release the deceased person’s name because his next of kin had not yet been notified.

The man was described as a 51-year-old male from Santa Clarita.

CHP Newhall, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to assist with the scene, according to CHP officials.

It is currently unknown if drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor to the collision, according to CHP officials.

  1. Let Susan Munoz waste away in Prison.

    • No one should fill there hearts with so much hate. Accidents happen. I feel bad for the family that lost a family member but I also feel bad for the 2 young ladies injured in hospital. My family has gone through this and we lost someone to a drunk and drugged person and he fled the seen and got caught. This accident is different……it could have been vehicle problems or maybe the young lady became I’ll while driving. To jump to conclusion and comment HATE is not the Christin way.

May God help heal the 2 ladies in hospital, may their families be strong, may the man that lost his life rest in peace, and may everyone live in peace, live with the faith in God that only He knows why things happen.
This is a time for prayer because 3 families were affected.

      • Ms. Mendez, I completely agree with you. Sadly, these things happen. It could have been a mechanical malfunction or something other than driver error. Let’s not be so quick to condemn someone without all the facts.

    • When can we expect updates on the condition of both ladies? Concerned for these two residents. And can CHP finalize the cause of collision?

    • Oh My God D”: R.I.P. Whiskey D”:

      • we will miss you …whiskey you know that i love you and when my day comes i expect you to be waiting for me when i arrive and show me around that is after you give me a great big hug …the hugs we gave every time we met for doughnuts at yum yums kisses my dear friend come visit i will know when you do ………….

        • Hi Tammy, I miss you… this is really too sad.
To Wiskey’s family & friends I will pray for you in this difficult time.
John…. the lord needed you, RIP….

    • Have you ever heard of an accident? She is in critical condition. Leave your negative comments behind. I understand you may have lost someone but she will forever feel bad for this. She was NOT under the influence, after all its called an accident.

    • You don’t know whether the drifting was caused by human error, mechanical error, or a health issue. Save your judgements for when you actually have the facts.

    • Be patient please! It’s only the initial investigation!! She crossed for an unknown reason!!! Don’t you want to know what the reason was?

    • You root in prison. It does not say she was drinking or anything. Do not say that About a friend of mine that is critical! Respect!

  2. MUNOZ SHOULD ROTT SHE IS OBVIOUSLY AT FAULT!!! R.I.P. WISKEY JON!! LOVE YOU KIMMI!!!

    • I absolutely 100% AGREE WITH CINDY AND CRAIG B. I AM A VICTIM OF A DUI DRIVER ACCIDENT, AND LET ME TELL YOU PEOPLE, UNTIL THIS HAPPENS TO YOU, YOU ARE CLUELESS!!!!!

THIS HEALTHY 22 YEAR OLD DRIVER–BY THE WAY, MY SISTER KNOWS, HAS NOOOOOO MEDICAL ISSUE AND THE CAR WAS NOT A BROKEN DOWN CLUNKER!!!!

WANNA KNOW WHAT HAPPENED? ONLY ONE OF 2 THINGS, OR BOTH: TEXTING WHILE DRIVING, DUI, OR BOTH.

IRONICALLY, THIS CHIC IS THE SAME AGE AS THE DRUNK GIRL WHO HIT ME “”ALSO HEAD ON!!!!!!!””

ST. PATRICKS DAY, 5PM, 22 YEARS OLD, ITS ANO BRAINER HERE AS TO WHAT HAPPENED!!! I HOPE THR DA FILED CHARGES BECAUSE THE DRUNK 22 YEAR OLD GIRL WHO HIT ME JUMPED HER BAIL AND IS NOW WANTED ON AN ARREST WARRANT!

      • And that is called jumping to conclusions due to past experiences in a completely unrelated incident. As Juli said, these are called accidents for a reason. To go back to the judicial terms, she is innocent until proven guilty. Stop passing judgement on a situation you only know 10% about. Children point fingers. Adults logically assess the facts (of which we don’t have enough of yet).

        • Even with texting, talking and drunk drivers–they still are called accidents. JUST ACCIDENTS THAT DIDNT HAVE TO HAPPEN! The District Attorney will complete it’s investigation and pull phone records as it relates to the investigation of the fatality. Someone DIED. The law states any driver distracted or impaired while driving is breaking the law, and if this leads to a fatal “ACCIDENT,” charges MUST BE FILED. This is the law. I didn’t write it. I just happen to know it!

      • Kim you are assuming the young girl was drunk . My family is also the victim of Dui and we lost a loved one and thanks to God I am at peace and I’m forgiving. Prayers for everyone.

        • No assumption here. Just the facts of the incident. If you read my post, you would have read that texting also may have been a contributing factor–which is also illegal. Again, it’s a no brainer! The chic wasn’t dodging an airplane!

  3. When did this occur? Daytime? Nighttime? What is the condition of Munoz? Was she arrested?

    ???

  4. Clearly the driver would never intentionally hurt anyone. She is truly a wonderful person with the biggest heart. Please understand that this was a huge accident.

  5. I’m sure you’ve never made a mistake in your life craigB.
Susan is an awesome girl who would never hurt anyone intentionally this is all an unfortunate event that no party predicted to happen. They call them ACCIDENTS for a reason.

    • For Juli and April and anyone else that knows all involve in accident ADVICE……..DO NOT TALK ABOUT EACH INDIVIDUALS, AVOID GIVING EACH FAMILY PAIN AND WORRIES. NOW THOSE THAT LOST SOMEONE WILL VENT AND THEY NEED COMPASSION AND WISE ADVICE. BUT SUSANS FAMILY ALSO NEEDS TO PROTECT HER. LETS ALLOW AUTHORIES TO DO THEIR JOB, DOCTORS TOO……..AND IN THE END EVERYTHING IS ON GODS HANDS.

    • Impaired and distracting driving that causes an ACCIDENT is also called an ‘accident.’ Does that make it okay??? Okay to drive drunk or drive and text? I HOPE NOT! Again, they’re all accidents. It’s the cause that is being investigated for possible charges to be filed. Their awaiting toxicology and phone records to complete their investigation!

  6. You have taken someone so dear to me my Whiskey brother a very special person who touched my life when i was lost you live always in my heart loved your life. R.I.P. This man was one of the best drivers i have ever know there are no words about the …. I am feeling towards you why him why not you? please Whiskey call me tell me it wasn’t you please

  7. We need to pray for all ,
The Lord ONLY knows why this happen ,
Let’s all pray and let Lord do his job , this was a bad accident that happen.
We are all sorry for what happen ,

  8. I agree with Keah completely!

  9. I agree with April. I am friends with the woman you are all blaming. She is a nice girl who would not do this intentionally or be irresponsible. Keep her name out of your mouth and rants. Pray for her and others involved health. Have respect do to the fact it says no cause so do not jump to conclusions.

  10. I am of the opinion that this a tradgey for all involved and nikm is right- it was an accident. It was at a curve, one lane in each direction. Herlinda said it best pray for all involved and my wish is that their families can now heal. Nothing more should be said.

  11. I see all the hate and anger out there and I have to say that there is no indication that alcohol was involved in this accident. Here is what we know now: John was tragically killed on impact. Kim has just been transferred to a physical rehab live-in facility. Poor Susan is still in ICU. The CHP tells me that it will be months before they know the cause of the accident. This, to me, is indicative of a possible link to mechanical failure. Please don’t be in a rush to judgement. Three families have been permanently altered by this accident. Three families need to heal. Three families need your prayers. We don’t need hate, we don’t need anger. We are, however, desperate for love and prayer for ALL of the families that have been hurt by this tragic accident.

  12. For those of you who have love in your hearts, and prayers for all of the families – thank you. We gratefully accept them. Please allow me to reiterate, I don’t know Susan but I know about her. I believe the CHP has ruled out drugs or alcohol as the cause. It was something else, and they say it could be 3 – 6 months before they have anything to tell us. Susan, by all accounts, is a beautiful, loving young lady who had just left work at a day care center. She was trying to get her degree in Education. Please, please have nothing but compassion in your hearts. They are in as much pain as we are right now, more so. Their daughter is still in ICU and desperately needs your prayers. Kimmi is alive, thank God, she’s alive. But she has a very long road ahead of her, too. It goes without saying that John’s family and friends need compassion and prayers. Put out love to heal our families. Don’t put out hate on lies and speculation. Don’t be in a rush to judgement. It’s not helping anyone.
