The husband, who sustained moderate to serious injuries in the crash, according to officials, is in stable condition at a local hospital; however, an official with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office could not release her identity yet because it was not known if the husband had been notified. The victim was a 29-year-old woman.

Sheriff’s Station officials with the Traffic Office investigated the case Thursday, when a truck collided with the driver’s side of a small white compact car that, deputies suspect, might have entered traffic in an unsafe manner.

The decedent was a passenger in the compact car, according to a medical examiner.

The crash was reported at approximately 8:39 a.m. near the Walmart off Kelly Johnson Parkway.

A total of four people were involved: one claiming minor injuries, two with moderate injuries and one person killed.

Deputies confirmed Friday the crash is being be investigated and a case could be presented to the District Attorney’s Office, which would then have prosecutorial discretion on any charges connected with the crash.

The initial report indicated the motorist suspected of causing the crash was cooperative, deputies said, the preliminary report didn’t indicate intoxication.

  1. Too many fatal crashes in Santa Clarita area..Officials need to adjust the speed limits to more reasonable speeds. Everyone needs to slow down and be more alert. This may not be the case in this collision, however, too many families are left with these tragedies. Many could be avoided if people would get off the phone, pay attention and slow down. Other people’s lives depend on all of us doing these things!!!

  2. This is such a bad intersection…they need a light here! We take this route weekly to go to gymnastics and the cars come flying along Rye canyon. So sad

  3. I work right next to this accident. Tragic news for the family god bless them . Traffic is really bad there and a four way stop would do fine I think. Or a slower speed limit, its even dangerous when turning into my job site. Hope local officials discuss about doing something.

  4. I agree with the other post.
    Speed limits are to high 55 is highway speed and this speed may HAVE been acceptable 10 years ago when the population was much smaller. But now with more cars on the the STREETS (not highway) the city needs to adjust accordingly.
    Lets be proactive for 2017 and reduce the speed limits.
    * new Golden Valley pass
    * soledad canyon road
    *plum canyon/whites canyon
    And many more.
    Blessings for all in the New Year

  5. And has anyone ever seen any Traffic Enforcement in Santa Clarita? The entire City Council and City Manager should be replaced unless someone makes a serious commitment to solve these problems in our SCV!

  6. I agree, there. Reds to be a stop sign or light there… it really is a bad intersection and at times it’s difficult to determine if a car is turning or going straight. People are impatient and eager to get where they are going.

    So sad. I hope all surviving parties are able to recover from this tragedy.

  7. Cell phones seem to be a huge culprit in accidents anymore. Many people can not or will not allow themselves NOT to answer their phone or text while driving. It’s unnerving.

  8. There is an epidemic of reckless driving and speeding along with cell phones being used by practically every other vehicle you see on the road including the soccer moms who set such a bad example for the children they are transporting. Also a lack of police monitoring. The only time you see them is when an accident has occurred and they come to make the report. The roads to both campuses of COC are more like race tracks than roads. Something needs to be done and now. Get the commander of the Sheriff’s office in Santa Clarita to take notice and get out of his office and get some of those huge cruisers moving and more motor officers out of wherever they stay all day and come down on the speeders and racers and red arrow violators NOW.

  9. Stop taking your right hand turn in front of my oncoming car. If I am driving at 45-55 mph I will not be able to stop in time. Stop at the red light and wait for your green. You are not required to roll through your red to cut me off on my green light.
