Civic leaders, law enforcement and representatives of transportation agencies, such as Metrolink and Metro, gathered at City Hall for the meeting.

“It covered a wide range of issues — the construction going on on I-5, moving forward on The Old Road project, as well as safety with CHP and Sheriff,” said county 5th District Supervisor Kathryn Barger, who organized the meeting, “in terms of what they’re doing to ensure road safety throughout the region.”

Newhall-area California Highway Patrol officers discussed increased enforcement measures in response to community concerns about safe driving on several unincorporated roads, said Officer Josh Greengard of the California Highway Patrol.

“As far as our part, it was what we’re doing to keep the roadways safe, as far as enforcement and education,” Greengard said.

Drivers in the parts of the unincorporated areas of the Santa Clarita Valley should see additional officers’ present on San Francisquito Canyon Road, Vasquez Road and Soledad Canyon Road as a result, he said.

From the mass transit perspective, Metrolink officials discussed projects and service between Los Angeles and Santa Clarita, as well as the SCV-to-Lancaster commute, officials said.

“Metrolink is proud to support the commitment and effort of L.A. County Supervisor Kathryn Barger and community leaders to discuss transportation projects that will improve service and provide new connections along the Antelope Valley and in Santa Clarita,” said Chris Gutierrez, PIO for Metrolink. “The Santa Clarita Valley Transportation Summit, led by Supervisor Barger, highlights the need for transportation to meet the needs of the vast communities along Metrolink’s Antelope Valley line, stretching from Los Angeles to Lancaster.”
