On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced a new officer health order no longer requiring masking outdoors, including mega events and in K-12 schools.
Due to daily COVID-19 hospitalizations remaining below 2,500 for the seventh consecutive day, L.A. County announced the entrance into a “post-surge period.”
Effective at 12:01 a.m. on Feb. 16 L.A. County will not require outdoor masking at mega events and outdoor spaces at TK-12 schools and childcare sites, though they still recommend it, according to a county’s statement.
“Good news. Starting tomorrow, masking is no longer required outside for K-12 schools or at outdoor mega events. This is a step in the right direction,” said Supervisor Kathryn Barger.
The new officer order applies to all school districts in L.A. County including those in Santa Clarita. Masking is still required indoors regardless of vaccination status.
A wide range of data and dashboards on COVID-19 from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health are available on the Public Health website:

Public Health encourages everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated. Anyone 12 and older living or working in L.A. County can get vaccinated against COVID-19. Many vaccination sites across the county, including all the County-run sites, are also offering third doses of vaccine to eligible immunocompromised people.
Vaccinations are always free and open to eligible residents and workers regardless of immigration status. To learn how to make a vaccine appointment, what verifications you will need to show at your vaccination appointment, and much more, visit the L.A. County Vaccination website (English) or Vacunate Los Angeles website (Spanish).

The political winds are blowing. Their own metrics were not met yet they dropped one component of the mandate. They are holding on for dear life. Do not let them succeed in the mid-terms because they gave you back a shred of freedom.
