CIF-SS Flag Football Playoffs Kick Off Featuring Four SCV Teams

Four Santa Clarita Valley flag football teams are preparing to begin their postseason runs as the CIF Southern Section playoffs get underway on Tuesday.

Hart, Valencia, West Ranch and Canyon will each look to make a push through their respective divisions, with the Hawks seeking their first playoff victory, the Vikings and Cowboys making their postseason debuts, and the Wildcats hoping to build on last season’s championship appearance.

Division 2

Hart (16-9) at Glendora (14-4)

Hart is coming off another successful season, finishing with a winning record and a winning percentage above .640, a mark the Hawks have achieved in all three seasons since the program began.

Despite their regular-season success, the postseason has been a challenge for Hart, which is still searching for its first playoff victory.

If there is a season for the Hawks to break through, it could be this one. Hart features an experienced roster led by Genesis Bray, who ranks fourth in California with 189 flag pulls.

Vanessa Biernat led the Foothill League with 1,178 rushing yards, while Alexandra De La Vega led the league in receiving yards with 1,045.

The Hawks will look to their standout players to lead the way when they travel to face Glendora on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Division 3

Valencia (12-10-3) vs. Temescal Valley (15-3)

Valencia is set to make program history Tuesday as the Vikings prepare to host Temescal Valley in the first playoff game in program history.

The Vikings enter the postseason with momentum after closing out the regular season with back-to-back shutout victories, defeating Golden Valley, 40-0, and West Ranch, 28-0.

With a combination of veteran leadership and underclassmen contributing throughout the season, Valencia will look to carry that momentum into its postseason debut as it hosts Temescal Valley on Tuesday.

Division 4

West Ranch (7-10) vs. Temecula Prep (14-8-2)

West Ranch is returning to the CIF-SS playoffs after reaching the Division 4 championship game last season.

The Wildcats will look to recapture that postseason form after a difficult stretch to close the regular season, losing four of their final five games.

West Ranch will have the opportunity to turn things around on its home field when it hosts Temecula Prep on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Canyon (9-6) vs. Hemet (11-6)

Canyon is preparing for its postseason debut in just the program’s second season, with the Cowboys set to host Hemet in a matchup between two relatively young programs.

The Bulldogs also began their program last season and gained postseason experience during their inaugural campaign. However, their playoff run ended in the first round with a 27-6 loss to Norco.

Canyon enters the postseason with momentum after winning four of its final five games.

Freshman Emma White has led the Cowboys offensively with 15 touchdowns, while senior Zoe Capsolas has added 13 touchdowns.

White has also made an impact defensively, recording six interceptions. Quarterback Maribel Winkler has matched White with six interceptions while contributing 30 sacks, eight rushing touchdowns and 41 passing touchdowns.

With a strong finish to the regular season and several key contributors on both sides of the ball, Canyon will look to make an immediate impact in its first postseason appearance.
