Student’s Drawing Sparks Interest, Ford Motors Shelby To Visit Live Oak Elementary

This week, a Castaic Live Oak Elementary School sixth grader’s drawing for class of a Shelby automobile was posted online and sparked interest from the Ford Motors Shelby Club.

A drawing of a Shelby automobile by a Castaic area sixth-grader, Jacob Lensch this week piqued the interest of the Ford Motors Shelby Club.

“It began as a regular assignment with a 6th-grade class being asked to draw a picture based on the theme, ‘Pursuing Your Dreams and Goals By Always Striving to Do Your Best’,” Castaic Union School District officials said. “One student, Jacob Lensch, wanted to go back to the 24 Hours of Le Mans Race in 1966, where a Shelby-built GT40 won (This was the race featured in the movie ‘Ford vs. Ferrari’).”

The art assignment soon caught the interest of Rene Gimenez, a teacher at Live Oak Elementary School.

“As teacher Rene Gimenez is an owner of a Shelby automobile and a member of the Shelby Club, he posted Jacob’s artwork on the Shelby Club’s Facebook page,” officials said. “The response was overwhelming from other club members and attracted the interest of Scott Black, Marketing Director for Team Shelby.”

This Thursday, the team from Ford Motors Shelby Club is slated to visit Live Oak Elementary School in Castaic.

The team is set to host a presentation titled ‘Pursuing your Passions and Goals and How School is an Integral Part of Making this Happen,’ featuring the appearance of:

  • Replica 289 FIA Cobra Roadster
  • Prototype 2008 Shelby GT500 Convertible
  • 1968 Mustang with Shelby Modifications

Check back at KHTS later this week for an inside look at the presentation.

  1. That is an incredible piece of art Jacob, you definitely have a future in art. Just need to make a correction however. The drawing is of a ‘66 Shelby Cobra, not a Ford Shelby GT40, which did win the ‘66 LeMans. Just an offside, Steve McQueen is my all time favorite actor due to this film!

  2. To Ed M-
Hi, I’m Rene Gimenez, Jacob’s teacher at Live Oak. You are correct- that is a drawing of a 427 Cobra and not the 1966 GT40. The Cobra was a part of a series of pictures Jacob drew of Shelby automobiles that was forwarded for the story, but he did draw the GT40 for the original assignment. Thank you for the kind words, Jacob is a talented, multi faceted student! Re: Steve McQueen- I have a DVD copy of Le Mans in my collection and I agree 100%!!

  3. Teachers can impact a child’s life so immensely! I’m so grateful to Jacob’s teachers at Live Oak. They both have impacted his life in such wonderful ways and have blessed him with confidence and motivation. Jacob‘s chance to meet Shelby American would not be possible without them. #ThankATeacher #LiveOakElementary
