Officials of the 32nd Annual Independence Day Classic 5K/10K presented William S. Hart Union High School District officials with funds for local cross country programs on Thursday.

“All the proceeds we raised from the Independence Day Classic were present to the six high school cross country coaches of the Santa Clarita Valley, ” said Carl Pantoji, race director of the 32nd Annual Independence Day Classic 5K/10K and Santa Clarita Runners Club Treasurer. “Each school received $2,300 dollars.”

More than a dozen people attended the presentation, held at the Nissan of Valencia.
The proceeds went to cross country programs at the Valencia, Hart, Saugus, West Ranch, Golden Valley and Canyon high schools.

“They usually use the money for traveling to different meets, but it’s up to the discretion of each coach,” Pantoji said. “We have 32 years of doing this race and every year we donate all of the proceeds to (the teams). Last year we donated $2,500 to each school.”
Sponsors of the 32nd Annual Independence Day Classic 5K/10K include the city of Santa Clarita, Advanced Audiology, Nissan of Valencia, Industrial Metal Supply Company, Steven Watanabe and Phil and Paola Howard.
