A Santa Clarita child suffering from a rare brain cancer has recently had a GoFundMe set up for her medical expenses.
Dante and Mandi Jones, the parents of a 10-year-old Millie, have set up a GoFundMe to help ease the burden of their daughter’s medical expenses who is suffering from Brain Cancer.
On Wednesday July 24, the Jones family’s world was turned upside down after a few weeks of stating that Millie was feeling a bit dizzy and increasingly tired, they took her to Children’s Hospital LA (CHLA).
Once CHLA ran some tests and scans, they found a mass in her brain, and Millie was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare form of inoperable brain cancer.
DIPG is a fast growing type of brain tumor that starts in the part of the brainstem called the pons.
Connecting the brainstem to the spinal cord, the pons controls many vital functions such as breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure, and the nerves and muscles used in seeing, hearing, walking, talking, and eating.
DIPG is a glioma, meaning it starts in the brain stem’s glial cells. Glial cells support and protect the brain’s nerve cells, according to the National Cancer Institute.
DIPG is a very aggressive form of cancer with limited treatment options and a low survival rate, according to her loved ones.
As of recently, Millie has completed her first round of radiation with the last nine weeks filled with daily hospital visits, labs, checking vitals, exams and much more.
Upon completing radiation, Millie is looking forward to returning to school, spending more time with her friends, all the Fall and Halloween festivities, and planning her 11th birthday coming up in November.
Millie has an important post radiation MRI scan coming up in October, added her loved ones.
