Person Killed By Rock On Road Commonly Used To Drive From Santa Clarita To Vegas

Residents are being warned to drive with caution after a person was killed by a thrown rock on a road commonly used to commute between Santa Clarita and Las Vegas.

Early Tuesday morning, while driving down Highway 138, approximately 65 miles east of Santa Clarita, a car was struck by a rock, killing the driver.

The driver was struck by the rock while traveling westbound on Highway 138 just east of Highway 18, a highly traveled highway used by those heading to Las Vegas.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered a female driver who had sustained fatal injuries from a rock which had been thrown through her vehicle’s windshield,” stated Jordan Church, spokesman for the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

A passenger in the vehicle stated the rock came flying from an unknown direction before fatally striking the female driving.

“This tragic incident follows another similar occurrence in the vicinity that occurred on the night of Oct. 6, where another driver reported a rock going through their windshield,” stated Church.

Multiple incidents occurred within a short time span, and the CHP Southern Division Major Crimes Unit and CHP Antelope Valley Area are investigating them.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact the CHP at (323) 259-3200.

About Carl Goldman

Carl Goldman, along with his wife, Jeri repurchased KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s hometown station on October 24, 2003. They owned it from 1990-1998, and then sold it to Clear Channel Communication in 1998, buying it back from Clear Channel in 2003. Since then, they have rebuilt KHTS as a critical voice of the Valley. In 2015 the radio station moved to its new headquarters on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, in the original Newhall Hardware building. In 2018 an FM was added, 98.1, with its signal being simulcast with AM-1220. In January 2020, Carl and Jeri cruised on the Diamond Princess. Carl was one of the first Americans to come down with Covid-19. Months earlier he was impacted by Guillain Barre Syndrome as a result of a Shingles vaccine in September 2019. He is still in recovery from the vaccine.
