Who/What: HOPE Theatre Arts presents “The Velocity of Autumn” by play Eric Coble at the Olive Branch Theatricals Pop-up theatre at the mall

Alexandra, an 80-year-old artist, is locked in a battle with her family over where she’ll spend her remaining years. In her corner: a razor-sharp wit, volcanic passion, and a Brooklyn brownstone where she’s barricaded with enough Molotov cocktails to take out the entire block. Her children have a secret weapon of their own: estranged son Chris, who returns after 20 years to become the family’s unlikely mediator. But no sooner are the words “Hi, Mom” spoken than the emotional bombs begin to detonate. “The Velocity of Autumn” is a wickedly funny and deeply touching exploration of the fragility – and ferocity -of life. Eight performances, Oct. 9-18.
