The Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley is offering three awards upwards of $1,000 to three school-attending women who have shown strong involvement in public affairs and volunteer work.
For women between 16 and 19 years old in Santa Clarita, Zonta Club is offering applicants an opportunity to win up to $1,000, while the first-place winner may also be eligible for Zonta’s District 9 award of $1,500 and upward to Zonta International for an additional $5,000 for a potential total of $7,500.
“The goal of the Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) award program is to encourage young women to participate in public affairs,” read a statement from Zonta Club. “Candidates having a commitment to the volunteer sector including evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy are considered.”
Zonta Club defines “public affairs” as “all aspects of community life where decisions are made about issues that relate to communities in which people work and live,” according to Zonta Club officials.

“In order for more women to be represented in key decision-making positions worldwide, Zonta encourages young women to pursue careers or seek leadership positions in public policymaking, government, volunteer organizations and further their education with these aims in view, according to a statement from Zonta Club.
With women in the United States composing only a small percentage of people in public affairs, Zonta club aims to encourage and mentor young women, so that “this field may flourish with young women in the years to come.”
To apply, 16- to 19-year-old women must be attending high schools, colleges or university within the Santa Clarita Valley, according to officials.
Applications are now available and must be completed and returned to the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley by February 25, 2022.
