Oh, how things can change during a long baseball season. On a Wednesday, you’re worried about cold bats. By the end of the weekend, all is right with the world.
This past weekend’s series up in Seattle could be a real turning point for the 2018 Dodgers. SafeCo Field became a new Flex Zone for Los Angeles.
The Dodgers battered the 71-53 Mariners to the tune of ten home runs and 28 hits for 27 runs. Seattle stole the middle game on Saturday thanks to a bizarre tenth inning balk, but the Dodgers dominated the rest of the way.
Clayton Kershaw pitched another gem on Sunday, seven innings of one run baseball, and he’s only give up six earned runs in four August starts. His 2.40 ERA is right around his career average of 2.36, despite the seemingly rocky year. He’s only going to get better as he works himself into postseason shape.
Justin Turner, who has missed 60 games this year, is heating up. He’s raised his batting average from .266 on August 9th to .305 today. In a word, he’s healthy. Dozier, Machado (who hit two homers on Friday), and Bellinger (hitting .431 in August) are all coming alive to go along with Kemp’s consistency over the season.
The Dodgers’ lineup looks more dangerous with every game. Look for that to continue in a tight race for the NL West crown.
Tonight, the Dodgers are back at the friendly confines of Chavez Ravine to host the St. Louis Cardinals. Both clubs are fighting for the Wild Card in addition to divisional battles. The Cardinals (68-57) are a game ahead of the Dodgers in the Wild Card Standings.
First pitch is at 7:10, and you can catch every inning of action on your Dodgers station for the Santa Clarita Valley, KHTS FM 98.1.
KENLEY’S BACK: According to Matt Kelly of MLB.com, Jansen (irregular heartbeat) will be activated by the Dodgers tonight and is no longer taking blood thinners. Incredible toughness from a pitcher that said there is a “99.9%” chance he will be undergoing surgery in the offseason.
National League West Standings
Arizona Diamondbacks 69-56
Colorado Rockies 68-56
Los Angeles Dodgers 67-58
