In addition to the House majority leader taking time to address the Santa Clarita delegation, a number of other prominent names from the Hill stopped by Wednesday to speak with the 30 Santa Clarita residents attending this year’s KHTS Washington D.C. Trip.

KHTS, along with a select group of Santa Clarita representatives, traveled to the nation’s Capital this week in an effort to have an impact on today’s decision makers. Many thanks goes to Congressman Steve Knight and his staff for assisting with scheduling, guidance and support.
Following in the same pattern as Tuesday’s itinerary, the group consisting of dozens of Santa Clarita business and political leaders were given access to a full day of meetings with federal officials on Wednesday.
Kicking off the day was a morning meeting with officials from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).

Christopher Mitton, Department of Transportation
Although their offices sit nearly 2,500 miles away from the Newhall Pass, the officials speaking on behalf of the DOT led an informative conversation not only about new Metrolink stations coming to Santa Clarita, but also went into great detail on the department’s plans and challenges for the next 10 years in regard to transportation throughout Santa Clarita and the I-5 corridor.
Following the morning informational sessions and constructive Q&A periods those in attendance were allotted with federal officials, the group then heard from GOP Rep. and Chairman of the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Devin Nunes (R-CA).
In addition to touching on the various issues that Nunes’ California district shares with CA-25, the chairman discussed the federal budget, giving projections on what the future holds both before and after this November’s midterm elections.
The day concluded with a surprise visit from Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), the five-term Congressman who has also served as the House majority leader since 2014.
While previous speakers had spoken on local issues, McCarthy used his time to elaborate on and answer questions regarding future federal legislation that Americans can expect from Congress in the immediate future.
Following the majority leader’s presentation, Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA) closed out the day by returning the conversation to local issues, discussing SoCal transportation projects as well as the changes coming to the California high-speed rail plan.
With Thursday scheduled as the last day of the KHTS Washington D.C. Trip, the itinerary has planned a guided tour around the capitol and National Mall Wednesday evening.
The final presentations are set to be given Thursday morning by Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY) at 9 a.m., followed by a 10:30 a.m. meeting and wrap-up led by representatives from the Motion Picture Association of America.
