On October 20, 2021, Chad Richison Stadium, formerly Central Oklahoma Stadium, got its current name. Before the eighth week of the 2022 athletic season, Central Oklahoma announced that the name of its stadium would change. Additionally, it was announced that renovations and improvements to the stadium would be finished by 2022.

Who is Chad Richison?

Chad Richison is a student-athlete alumnus of the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) who competed in wrestling for the university during the early 90s. After completing his education at UCO, he established Paycom and currently holds the company’s CEO position.

Stadium Expansion

An expansion program on the east side of Chad Richison Stadium increased its capacity from 10,000 to 12,000. In addition, adding new bleachers and various amenities on the concourse has contributed to a more well-rounded overall experience at the stadium.

As well as expanding the capacity, Chad Richison Stadium underwent beautification in the south end zone. A standout feature of the stadium is now a large waterfall, which creates a distinctive appearance compared to other college football stadiums. Trees and large rocks in the southwest and southeast corners surround the waterfall.

Chad Richison Stadium has undergone significant improvements in the past, and as a result, it is considered among the top football stadiums in NCAA Division II.

In 2003, Chad Richison Stadium received upgrades such as new artificial turf, improved lighting, and a state-of-the-art scoreboard. Two years later, in 2005, a three-story press box was installed, complete with club seating and other stands on both sides of the field. The field was resurfaced with FieldTurf in 2012, and in 2014, a new, high-tech scoreboard was installed.

The Bronchos football team played their inaugural game at Chad Richison Stadium on September 18, 1965, where they secured a shutout victory against College of Ozarks with a score of 31-0.

The University of Central Oklahoma’s football team has had nine seasons in which they did not suffer a defeat on their home field. As of 2021, the team’s overall record at the facility is 176-103-5. In addition, in 2022, UCO also put in a brand-new synthetic playing field, with Mammoth Construction setting down brand-new turf.
