Want to Be an Insurance Agent? Here’s How

Insurance agents have a pretty sweet deal if you ask me. They work flexible hours, are paid handsomely, and no one day is the same. If you are looking for a job that is versatile and differs depending on which day of the week it is, then an insurance agent is the job for you. Most of the time, insurance agents work on the road, but with that said, they also work according to their own schedule, unlike other jobs. Working as an insurance agent can be stressful, yes, but what isn’t stressful these days?

In this article, we are going to tell you what you have to do if you want to be an insurance agent. We hope that this article will benefit you and will guide you toward your goal of becoming an insurance agent.

So, you want to be an insurance agent? Here is how!

Be Sure That is What You Want

Before becoming an insurance agent, you must first ask yourself if that is what you want to do. As human beings, we naturally switch between goals and aspirations, and often do not stay on one thing for very long. We often commit ourselves to things we see no future in because, at the time, we consider them to be ‘all that we want’. You must really ask yourself whether or not you want to become an insurance agent before pursuing any formal degree or qualification. Think about it.

University Degree

While you do necessarily need a university degree to become an insurance agent, it is definitely recommended that you do have one. Having a degree will set you apart from the other people applying for a position as an insurance agent – having a degree will demonstrate lifelong commitment. We recommend that, to become an insurance agent, that you have degrees in mathematics and accounting. Economics, management, and business are also good degrees to have. A university degree can be the dividing line between you and other prospective candidates – do not overlook the importance of a university degree.

Licensing Exam

The licensing exam will determine whether or not you have what it takes to become an insurance agent. The licensing exam can be very difficult and it is often here where many people fail. To avoid this, take up courses in your spare time. Studying and educating yourself on how to pass will benefit you massively and will help you toward achieving your goal of becoming an insurance agent. Study, study, study. Once you have completed your licensing exam, you will not have to study another day in your life, so put all of your efforts into achieving this one, last hurdle.

Job Placement

Once you have completed your licensing exam, you will need to find a job placement. You can look on all of the major insurance lenders websites in the careers sections and this is often where you will find the jobs relevant to your qualifications and license, though you may want to look on independent job search websites, for the insurance companies themselves may not regularly update their website with positions. Additionally, you may want to send emails out to all of the big companies asking if they are hiring and whether or not they would consider taking you on. Outline your qualifications and license status in this email.

Coins

Finding a job placement should not, hopefully, be too difficult. There is a high demand for insurance agents at the moment and it is a career that not many people pursue. If you are rejected, keep on persevering, eventually, you will find the position for you. You may also want to try any of the lesser insurance companies to see if they are hiring. With experience in a lesser company, you will be in a better position to proceed onto a bigger one than if you had no experience at all.
