Action Drug Rehab Hour –Bill Bodner of the L.A. Drug Enforcement Administration – July 24th, 2023
On this episode of The Action Drug Rehab Hour, host Cary Quashen brings on Robbie Robinson and Bill Bodner of the Los Angeles D.E.A. to discuss his experience witnessing substance abuse in the modern day and what problems are present with users now. Cary and Bill highlight how fentanyl deaths are underrepresented in mainstream media and how it needs to receive the same attention as other issues, such as gun deaths. Carey also discusses the ugly reality of overdosing, describing the experience as “missing the ugliness” when users go straight back to using fentanyl.
After the first break, Carey brings up the concept of “breaking contracts” as we grow up, and how constant exposure to drug use desensitizes adolescents into avoiding usage. Bill mentions how now, social media and algorithms play a giant role in exposing children to addictive behaviors either themselves or their peers partake in. He also mentions how easy social media makes acquiring substances.
Finally, Bill wraps up the show by describing the three branches of drug prevention – criminal justice, treatment, and education awareness. He stresses to listeners the importance of parents being active in monitoring their children’s behaviors, as well as education departments to continue implementing awareness on different substances and their dangers.
