Coaches’ Corner on AM-1220 KHTS – March 27, 2017
On this episode of Coaches’ Corner, Ron is out and Kyle is in to take care of the hosting duties. The show opens with the local Santa Clarita sports roundup, or, ehem, not…
“Two words: Rayyyyy Derssss” – Coach Herrick
Instead of local sports the guys jumped right in to the big story of the day, that the NFL owners voted 32-1 (Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is not okay with it, apparently) to relocate the Raiders to Las Vegas. The move likely takes place in time for the 2019 season, meaning the Raiders are sitting ducks in Oakland for two seasons. A whopping $750 million in publicly-funded money to help build a new stadium was likely the strongest reason for the team to make the move.
This week’s backstory interview was with Lt. Commander of the Naval Reserve and former Valencia Vikings pitcher Rob Herrick. Herrick pitched for the US Naval Academy and is currently the Strength & Conditioning Coach at St. Anselm’s College in New Hampshire.
From St. Anselm’s College
“Herrick has an M.S.S. in Sports Fitness and Health from the United States Sports Academy. His certifications include Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and Level 1 Sport Performance Coach from USA Weightlifting.
Herrick is a 2006 graduate of the United States Naval Academy where he received a B.S. in Political Science. Upon graduation, he served on active duty in the U.S. Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer for over six years.”
The show wraps up with a special guest call-in in the final segment from none other than Valencia Vikings great and Super Bowl XLIX champion Shane Vereen.
Shane Vereen 7-year NFL veteran playing for the New York Giants. He was an all-state running back and sprinter at Valencia High School, then went on to play at CAL where he rushed for over 2,800 yards and 29 touchdowns in three seasons for the Golden Bears.
Shane and his brother Brock host the Playmaker Football Camp each year at Valencia High School.
