When it comes to reaching your full potential in relationships, keeping your ego in check is essential.

Your ego is the part of you that is concerned only with yourself, being right, being closed off and will always present itself in a non-kind way. One if the reasons you have to be vigilant about putting your ego in the backseat is because if you don’t, it will dictate your interactions.

The ego is designed to protect you. In relationships it is doing its job, it is protecting you from being vulnerable, connecting to, and experiencing your heart and their heart to avoid getting hurt.

It is getting in the way, and sabotaging this deep meaningful relationship that you want to create with people you love the most.

Conscious awareness of the ego and its interactions takes a lot of practice, and many people ask me how to be able to tell if it is their authentic self or their ego showing up.

Most importantly just be aware of what you are doing and how you are responding to situations. The more you practicing the awareness, the more likely you are to catch it happening.

Think about your true, authentic self, and think about if how you are acting honors that. Stop yourself in an argument and think before you speak. Think about how you are feeling, how you are acting, and consider how your partner may be thinking.

The ego’s main job is to make sure you are, or at least feel, right. Are you more concerned with being right than you are with being kind and hearing your partner’s side of the story? If so, that is most likely your ego talking. Change your mindset to be kind, open and loving towards your partner.
