Eye On The Valley – Homeschooling Opportunities & LA County Supervisor Kathyrn Barger – October 13, 2023
On today’s episode of Eye on the Valley, host Matt Watson begins the show by welcoming Terri Budke, the Director of North LA County Exploration Program in Antelope Valley. She talks about homeschooling opportunities and she and her team can help make that a reality for your learner.
After Covid, many parents were looking for an alternative to in person schooling. Their Explorations program is focused on building the perfect program for your child, serving learners from TK-8th grade for basic classes like math, science, language arts. In addition, they focus on hands-on projects, park days and twice a week enrichment classes.
A credentialed teacher works with the families by offering a paid curriculum and chrome book. One of the great features about the exploration programs is families can use their their educational funding for extracurriculars such as sports or tutoring.

Hour Two:
In the second hour of Eye On The Valley, Matt is joined by LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger.
Together they discuss Kathryn’s beginnings as the only female in local government. She grew up watching her father serve his local community which inspired her to do the same. Kathryn now acts as Supervisor for 20 cities in the 5th District.
Currently, she is working on using state and federal dollars to maintain and develop more open space, something that most of us came to utilize and love during the pandemic as businesses and restaurants were closed. She is also working with the Blue Ribbon Commission which is addressing the homeless issue.
She wants to focus more on the importance of mental health, drug abuse and help with housing and support services for those in need. She and her team are also looking to an alternative policing model which will help to encourage police force enrollment as recruitment numbers are low.

Matt was also joined in studio by his brother and special guest “Big T” for some trivia.
