Eye On The Valley –Matt Zuchowicz, Allison Bravo, Jeff Barber – February 9, 2024

Host: Matt Watson

Guests: Matt Zuchowicz and Allison Bravo, Jeff Barber

Today, your host Matt Watson talks with SCVi and iLead’s SCVi and iLeads Matt Zuchowicz and Allison Bravo.  Matt is the Director of Learning Support with College and Career Readiness and Allison is the Director of School Initiatives with iLead California.  Together, they talk about Career Technical Education or CTE Pathways, which provides high school students with a group of classes that exposes students to high demand, high paying jobs to provide them with industry certifications, life skills and internships.  Previous Pathways offered are theater based, digital arts, and fine arts, but on today’s show, Matt and Allison are pleased to announce a new Pathway program offered to the high school learners.  With an already successful program in aerospace for the TK-8th grade learners, SCVi high schoolers will now have access to a three year aerospace learning pathway.  Matt and Allison are excited because the new aerospace pathway will give learners a chance to work closely with industry professionals, earn unmanned pilot licenses, play drone soccer and find internships. Project Based Learning and social-emotional learning is the focus for the learners, but there is an importance in aligning with state standards as well.  SCVi is a fully accredited, free charter school serving Lancaster, Antelope Valley and Santa Clarita offering both in person and homeschool learning for children ages TK-12.

In the second hour, Matt welcomes Jeff Barber in studio.  Jeff is the Arts Supervisor for the city of Santa Clarita and the Manager of The Main in Newhall.  Jeff talks about the exciting year for The Main as their calendar is full of many choices for the local community for entertainment.  The 81-seat theater will host some 21  productions this year alone, ranging from family friendly, drama, one-man shows and workshops.  Jeff talks about the importance of having a facility like The Main in our neighborhood and is thankful that the city took over to operate about 8 years ago. It helps to add to the local economy, boosts our quality of life as well.  Jeff is busy working with about 18 production companies in order to keep The Main busy.  The Main is proud to present ‘At Home At The Zoo’ playing through February 18th.
