Families in Action:  December 28, 2015

From ActionFamilyCounseling.com

“Action Family Counseling accomplishes this by providing an effective treatment approach developed by the Department of Health and Human Services that includes a multi-disciplinarian personalized approach by a treatment team. Once a patient completes our intake process to our residential program he or she receives 24-hour crisis management, individual counseling, group therapy, family education and counseling, treatment planning, routine and random toxicology screening, pharmacotherapy and medication management, education about Alcohol and Other Drugs and mental health issues, self-help and support group orientation, case management services, and discharge service planning with a transitional service plan to our Intensive Outpatient treatment program to ensure a continuum of care.”

In the first segment, Cary introduces Alex, a 26 year old mother of two who was homeless and addicted to heroin. Her story takes you through a multitude of emotions as she explains using every day until her first child was born, then birthing a child addicted to heroin. She is now 77 days sober living at the Action Family Counseling house, changing her life around so that she can be the mother her two children deserve and the upstanding human being she truly is.

In the second segment we have Spencer, a 23 year old from Orange County who spent his days homeless with his girlfriend, both hooked on meth and heroin. He explained how he went from rehab to rehab, “burning through all [his] county money and options,” and had no insurance and no family to turn to. Spencer tells us that he is 53 days sober after volunteering to be on a new addiction and recovery show for TLC, which connected him with Action Family Counseling where he says his outlook on life as changed and he wants to be a productive person.
