New Year’s Resolutions

Some people attempt to commit to dieting, or going to the gym more often, or even less (or stopping completely) drinking and/or drug use. However, Cary and Michael don’t take kindly too the term “resolution”, because it can set you up for failure.

A better way to make a positive change in your life is to set goals for yourself. A specific target that can be achieved through hard work and dedication.

“Goals are easier to follow through with than resolutions.” – Cary Quashen

Its important to have a plan for your goal. Put things and people in place to help you reach the bar you set for yourself. A support group is an excellent safeguard to put in place to help keep you on the path in which you have chosen.

People that love and care about you will want you to succeed in your endeavors, but you have to be able to prove your commitment as well. Educate yourself. For example, if you want to quit smoking, talk to your doctor about the best possible ways you can go about doing so (gum, patches, etc).

You don’t need to detox by yourself, its incredibly dangerous, so don’t set yourself up for failure! There are steps that need to be taken, especially with something such as tabacco that is one of the most addictive properties in the world.

“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” – Michael Dougherty

“Saying something and doing something is different.” – Cary Quashen

A major piece of advice from Families in Action: stop setting yourself up for failure. Cary makes it clear that people, especially addicts, know where they shouldn’t be. Avoid those places at all costs. Don’t hang out with the same people; hang out with people who want to go do the new hobby you inherited, not people friends who want to go down to the pool club and drink all night.
