Stroke Awareness — March 20, 2019
On this episode of the Providence Holy Cross Health Hour with Tom Burton, Dr. Ambooj Tiwari and Helaine Kauffman, RN, join the show to talk about stroke awareness and how to be ready when someone around you has a stroke.
Tom begins the show by talking about the advancements Providence Holy Cross has made in their many health centers around the valley and including Tarzana. Tom also talks about the PURPLESTRIDE LOS ANGELES 2019 PRESENTED BY KATHRYN NAFICY PANCREATIC FOUNDATION fundraising event happening this year on May 4. For more information on this event, click here to register.
Then Helaine shares the touching story of what inspired her to get into nursing, and why she cares about nursing and the people she takes care of after not enrolling in nursing school until her mid-20s. Her love and passion for taking care of others has led her to where she is now, working as the Regional Stroke and Neurocare Program Manager.
Later in the show, Helaine and Dr. Tiwari talk about stroke awareness, and the acronym “Be FAST” which can help people take the proper steps when someone is having a stroke. Dr. Tiwari shares the concerning, but important fact that for every hour someone is suffering from a stroke, they lose about three years of brain life. Knowing what to do, or having a better understanding of what to do, when someone has a stroke can be the difference in saving their life. Dr. Tiwari and Helaine also talk about how Providence Health Cross goes to great lengths to be prepared to make the important decisions quickly so that potential patients spend as little time as possible waiting in an emergency room. Providence Holy Cross takes the treatment of strokes very seriously, and Helaine and Dr. Tiwari share the details of what they do to be better prepared themselves.
Listen in as Dr. Tom Burton, Helaine Kauffman, RN, and Dr. Tambooj Tiwari talk about how to be aware of the symptoms of a stroke, and how Providence Holy Cross goes above and beyond to treat them.
