Santa Clarita Gazette Radio Hour – April 15, 2016
John’s out of commission today, so Doug’s running the show solo today!
Doug opens his heart in the first segment, discussing the financial and personal hardships involved in day-to-day operations of running a newspaper organization in today’s world. Doug immediately addresses the slam-piece published on the front page of Wednesday’s Santa Clarita Signal publication.
Hometown Station’s Senior News Director Heather Harbin joins Doug in the second segment to deliver the latest news from the Santa Clarita Valley, including details on this morning’s brush fire near Newhall Ranch Road. Aided by today’s 30-plus miles per hour winds, the fire has burned 32.8 acres by the time of today’s broadcast.
Ms. Harbin provided the show with updated information regarding complaints brought against the Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan. According to Ms. Harbin, Mr. Millan will not be charged with animal cruelty after he was involved in an episode in which a dog nipped a pig’s ear.
Santa Clarita Gazette staff writer Lee Barnathan phones into the program to discuss his recently published and upcoming articles. Mr. Barnathan’s most recent post highlights Gail Morgan, the City of Santa Clarita communications manager for the past 26 years, who will be retiring in December.
From Mr. Barnathan’s latest article (From santaclaritafree.com)
Since Feb. 1990, Morgan has been responsible for all of the city’s marketing, advertising, publications relations, community relations, graphic design, audio/video and social media efforts, according to her profile on LinkedIn.com. She also heads the city’s Communications Division, which includes radio/television/print/web advertising, marketing, public and community relations, citizen participation and outreach.
Hart School District board member Joe Messina joins Doug in-studio during the show’s final segment. The guys discuss the controversies that always seem to be surrounding Santa Clarita’s Mayors Prayer Breakfast, which will take place on May 5th. For more information regarding the breakfast, visit scvmpb.net.
Doug and Joe also explore the potential of a City Council run by former Assemblyman Cameron Smyth.
