TFS Safer Money Hour: Travel Edition
What is Kidnap and Ransom Insurance?
Is it just for the larger companies or should you be looking into something like this?
“Right now we have people kidnapped all over the world … right this minute there are people taken in other countries in the middle east and other places.” – Arif Halaby
In the second segment, Arif shares real-life stories of instances where people can be dangerously drugged or kidnapped and even left for dead.
Things to Consider About Ransom and Kidnap Insurance:
1. Where you are traveling
“Most of you didn’t get in an accident on the way to work today, but you wore your seatbelt anyway.” – Arif on the importance of safe traveling under all circumstances
Things to Consider When Traveling:
1. Make sure you have multiple credit cards – sometimes a hotel room or other big foreign purchases can cause a two or three-day hold on your credit card
2. Don’t put all of your cash in one place. “If you are gonna go out shopping you keep some money in one pocket and the rest of your money in another pocket or wallet.” – Arif
3. “Call ahead and make sure it’s a legitimate restaurant–check with the concierge.” – Arif on restaurants in foreign countries
4. Be mindful of your leisure
5. “Do not just go to a taxi standing on a corner.” – Arif on which taxis are the best and cost-effective
6. Take a picture of your passport and ID cards and send them to your loved ones at home. “Never leave the hotel without your passport.” – Arif Halaby
