The Senior Hour – Burrtec and SCV Guardians – June 14th, 2023

In the first half of today’s Senior Hour, hosts Barbara Cochran and Doctor Polucki open up the show with Dennis Verner, General Manager of Burrtec Waste, to share some of the updates coming to the waste management of Santa Clarita. Previously, Waste Management were the default managers of all of the trash and recycling for SCV residents; however, starting this July, they will be replaced by Burrtec, offering SCV residents new waste bins along with a brand new set of guidelines residents must adhere to. Dennis and Dr. Polucki go into detail about the changes, what they entail for waste collection as a whole, and how it will benefit residents of the Santa Clarita Valley.

In the second half of the show, Barbara welcomes Tim Traurig and his daughter, Jennifer Herring, onto the show to discuss Guardians SCV. Tim explains how Guardians is a non-profit organization that helps current and veteran first responders and military families come together in comradery and support for each other. They help members deal with difficult subjects such as trauma, drug abuse, and the healing process in general. They also organize important community events, such as the 9/11 Patriot Day event, celebrating its 3rd year upcoming on September 9th. Jennifer also discusses her sponsorship and support for Guardians as a whole and highlights the impact it’s had on both her and her community members.

Finally, Barbara, Dr. Polucki, Tim and Jennifer wrap up the show by giving some important recaps as well as contact information for the SCV Guardians phone number and website.
