The Senior Hour – Henry Mayo Stroke Prevention, Unipest – August 14, 2024

Hosts: Barbara Cochran & Dr. Thomas Polucki

Guest:  Melody Halio, Cardon Ellis

On today’s show, your hosts Barbara and Dr. Polucki welcome Melody Halio in studio.  Melody is the Manager of the Stroke and Diabetes Program at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.  Melody and her team work with patients from ER to discharge.  She talks specifically about stroke preventative care, beginning with managing your weight, diet choices and sufficient exercise.  A stroke occurs when a blood clot travels to the brain, blocking blood flow.  The team at Henry Mayo utilizes the acronym of “Be Fast” to identify stroke symptoms including balance, vision changes and slurred speech amongst other symptoms.  Go to HenryMayo.com for more information.

In the second half of the show, the hosts welcome Cardon Ellis of Unipest.  They discuss the tarantula hawk population, a flying insect that hunts tarantulas.  They typically reside in the outskirts of SCV and deliver a massive sting with much pain to follow.  Unipest is a locally-owned family business that treats your pests from bees, ants and termites to gophers and bed bugs, using eco-friendly and organic methods, safe for children and pets.  Call 661-BUG-7575 or go to Unipest.com for more information.

The Senior Hour is sponsored by Providence Holy Cross Medical Center and Comfort Keepers In-Home Care.
