Hour 1 – People tend to make bad decisions when it comes to their finances and handling their retirement funds. In the first hour Arif and Jeff explained how people justify their bad behavior with other bad behavior such as rationalizing the needs for money now and not looking ahead for the future. Sometimes people don’t value company-matched funds, that money is money you’ve earned for your retirement. There are responsible ways to touch your retirement money, that do not require taking out a major portion that is subject to costly penalties. Arif wrapped up the hour by urging listeners to be smart and armed with the facts when decided what risks to take in investing money
Hour 2 – Arif and Jeff welcomed guest Tamara Gurney of Mission Valley Bank to share her knowledge of working with small businesses and what community banks do to sustain the life cycle of a small business. It is very important for small businesses to find the right partnerships that work for them, schools such as College of the Canyons are very good in this regard. Community banks like Mission Valley Bank are crucial to small businesses in the Santa Clarita Valley because theses businesses need trusted advisers that are committed to working with them through equipment financing and various loans they need. They wrapped up the final hour with discussion about the great work COC does with their Small Business Development Center, where entrepreneurs can take courses and find a wealth of information.
