Providence Tarzana and Holy Cross Hospitals were ranked in the top 50 best hospitals in the nation, officials said Wednesday.
For the second straight year, Providence Tarzana Medical Center was named among Healthgrades 2020 America’s 50 Best Hospitals, and on Tuesday the online consumer healthcare site added Holy Cross Medical Center to the list, according to Providence.
The distinction places the two San Fernando Valley hospitals among the top 1 percent of nearly 4,500 hospitals assessed nationwide for consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, a resource that connects consumers, physicians and health systems, according to officials.
“Our physicians and our entire staff are committed to quality care for our community, and this recognition validates their dedication to providing for our patients,” said Dale Surowitz, chief executive of Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana. “This is especially exciting as we celebrate our partnership with the world-renowned Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to build and redevelop our Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center campus and expand upon our excellence.”
Providence Holy Cross in Mission Hills has made Healthgrades America’s Best 100 Hospitals the previous two years and now is recognized by Healthgrades’ highest achievement, according to officials.
“Providence excels because we share expertise across our system to continuously improve patient care,” said Bernard Klein, chief executive of Providence Holy Cross. “We are challenged to participate in clinical trials and to improve bedside care through nurse research. I am so proud Holy Cross physicians, nurses and everyone who works in our hospital has met this challenge with enthusiasm and a true desire to heal our patients.”
Brad Bowman, M.D., chief medical officer at Healthgrades, agreed that success is engrained in the organization’s highly ranked hospitals.
“The recipients of the Healthgrades America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award are committed to high-quality standards throughout the entire organization,” Bowman said. “We congratulate the recipients of this award as they provide the best care possible for their patients.”
Recipients of the Healthgrades America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award stand out among the rest for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care, according to officials.
During the 2020 study period from 2016 through 2018, these hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 32 most common inpatient conditions and procedures, as measured by objective performance data, risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications.
Across Providence, Southern California Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank was included in America’s 100 Best Hospitals, while St. Joseph Hospital, Orange, St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, Mission Hospital, Mission Viejo and St. Mary Medical Center, Apple Valley made the America’s 250 Best Hospitals list.
