Former tree-sitter John Quigley led more than 60 people in celebration, prayer and tree-hugging for an oak tree named “Old Glory”…
Dozens of residents and environmentalists, a pastor, a rabbi and a Chumash ceremonial leader offered their prayers and blessings to the oak at the its new location in an oak tree preserve on Pico Canyon Road. Quigley asked those in attendance to encircle the fence around the tree and symbolically “hug” it.
It was a “cautiously optimistic” celebration. Environmentalists celebrate the leafing out of the oak tree’s branches, but worry that Old Glory may die after a few years in its new location..,
