A jury cleared six men Thursday of a cumulative total of 30 charges in the gang-related murder of a Canyon Country man Thursday…
Canyon Country residents Jose de Jesus Rodriguez, 21, Samuel Herr, 20, Tony Villasenor, 21, Adam Rodriguez, 24, Robert Moreno Jr., 20, and Esteban Alonso, 21, were found not guilty of five counts each in the fatal stabbing of Byron Benito, 19. They were charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, special circumstance allegations of lying in wait and other lesser charges.
Benito was found lying on a street in the Greenbrier East Mobile Home Park after being beaten and stabbed in a nearby parking lot during the night of Jan. 15, 2002. Detectives believe Benito was attacked by at least 17 gang members and associates to avenge the death of Victor Flores, 19, of Piru, whose body was found in a dry creek bed near Sierra Highway the previous day.
