A 5 Freeway car crash caused two vehicles to tumble off of the interstate and onto a city street Sunday evening, officials said.

Just after 6 p.m. Sunday, first responders received a call regarding a crash near the 5 Freeway on Rye Canyon Road in Valencia, according to Bernard Peters, a supervising fire dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“Looks like we have two patients transported,” said Peters. “(AMR) is taking them to the hospital now.”

California Highway Patrol logs described the vehicles involved as a red sedan and a gray SUV.

The gray vehicle landed in the brush on the south side of Rye Canyon, taking out several trees. The crumpled red vehicle landed on the westbound side of Rye Canyon Road, partially blocking the right lane.

Two male patients were transported to the hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

As of 6:30 p.m., all lanes of Rye Canyon Road were blocked near The Old Road due to the active scene.
