The crash, near SR-118, caused a SigAlert to be issued for all lanes on the 5 freeway.

At 10:28 a.m., Fire officials responded to the collision, where a big rig truck was found stradling the center divider between the north and south I-5 lanes.

Brian Humphrey, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department, said the truck may have fallen from an overpass.

“20 LAFD personnel responded to the I-5 at the 118,” said Humphrey “A big rig truck appeared to have left the overpass above according to statements from bystanders.”

Other drivers at the scene tried to assist the driver of the big rig truck prior to first responders arriving at the location, he said.

The driver of the truck sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated.

Officials did not give an estimate for when the freeway would be reopened.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by California Highway Patrol officials.

“Right now we don’t know the time frome when the freeway will be open,” said CHP Officer Bejar. “We’re waiting for two trucks and CalTrans to check if there is a possible hazmat (situation).”
