Assembly Bill 782, or the Health Insurance Fairness Act, is an attempt to lower health care costs by increasing the deduction a taxpayer can make due to medical expenses.
“California families know the incredible challenge of balancing rising healthcare costs with their other expenses, like housing,” Acosta said.
“This legislation is meant to help balance healthcare costs as well as level the playing field for those who do not receive employer based health insurance. If a business gets this break, why shouldn’t every family in California?”
Currently, Californians must reach a price tag of 7.5 percent of their salary in order to start deducting medical costs. Acosta’s bill would eliminate this threshold.
If passed, the new law would let taxpayers deduct the full cost of their medical insurance premiums.
Assemblyman Dante Acosta represents the 38th Assembly District stretching from Vasquez Rocks in Agua Dulce to the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, which encompasses the communities of Santa Clarita, Porter Ranch, Chatsworth and Northridge.
