Called Hypersound, the FDA-approved medical device can be programmed to suit a specific individual’s hearing loss, amplifying the sound for that particular person without raising the actual volume on the TV.Advanced Audiology Hypersound

“It looks like a speaker, but it’s not a speaker– it’s actually a beam of sound,” Aronson said. “You feel like you’re in the TV show. It’s like surround sound, just for yourself.”

Hypersound is able to amplify sounds for one particular person by using an individualized, directional beam of sound programmed to meet that person’s needs.

Those who have had spouses complain that the TV is turned up too loud, people who aren’t ready to get a hearing aid yet or individuals who don’t want to wear their hearing aids by the end of the day are the perfect candidates to use Hypersound in their homes, according to Aronson.

An Advanced Audiology staff member with an 85 percent hearing loss recently tested out the equipment, and reported that he was able to hear “perfectly” without his hearing aids.

At Advanced Audiology, Aronson’s philosophy is “to improve people’s social lives through better communication and hearing”– not to simply sell hearing aids like some may think.

“If somebody says they’re not having problems with their social life or with communication with anything that we have to give a solution to, we’re not going to do anything about it, but we’re going to educate the person,” she said. “That’s the difference between an audiology office and going to a big box store.”
