For those musicians seeking more insight or advice on how to build their dream home studio, the city of Santa Clarita has scheduled a free panel discussion featuring experts on both sides of the recording process.

The Centre plans to host New Heights Panel Discussion: Building a Home Studio — a free panel discussion about creating a home music studio — on Wednesday, May 3 from 7-9 p.m.

“Panelists will share all of the basic aspects of setting up a home recording studio, including details on equipment needs and setting budgets for costs associated with building a home studio,” according to a city press release.

The panel discussion hopes to feature experts in the field including Jim Jeffery, Steven Leavitt and Thomas Brewer, said the city press release.

Jim Jeffery received his MFA degree from Cal Arts and has worked on major and independent labels. Having worked regularly worked on both sides of the studio, Jeffery has accreditations at labels such as Virgin, Columbia, and Metal God Records.

Steven Leavitt holds a certificate in audio engineering from the Musicians Institute in Hollywood. Although his company “I Create Sound” now works with world-class artists from all parts of the musical spectrum, Leavitt has worked in a wide variety of spaces, from world-class recording studios to garages.

Thomas Brewer is a 23-year veteran in the film, television and gaming industries. Brewer currently mixes theatrical features and movie trailers for studios such as Warner Brothers, Lionsgate Films and HBO.

New Heights is a series of panel discussions hosted by the Santa Clarita City Council and the Santa Clarita Arts Commission that serves to help educate artists and performers. The series is designed to help expand knowledge and teach valuable tools to increase musicians’ chances to be successful, according to SantaClaritaArts.com.
