A Canyon Country man received a sentence of 100 years to life in state prison Wednesday for the murder of his wife and sister, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Lance Holger Anderson, 63, chose to forgo a jury trial—pleading his case to Judge Hayden Zacky, which ultimately resulted in a conviction on two counts of first degree murder July 19.

Anderson “mercy killed” his wife Bertha Anderson, 68, and his 58-year old sister, Lisa Nave, with the intentional discharge of a firearm in 2013.

Prosecutors argued that anderson planned funeral arrangements and practiced his shooting abilities.

Anderson fatally shot his wife in their home because she was suffering, and then travelled to North Hills to kill his sister who was living in a facility due to her ailing health, according to evidence presented in the pretrial.

Police officers arrested Anderson at the assisted living home near where his sister’s body was found, shortly after her murder. They recovered the Derringer pistol he used at the home, as well.

Lance Anderson lived on the 26800 block of Claudette Street in a condominium he shared with his wife.
