Canyon Country Murder Suspect Ordered To Stand Trial

A Canyon Country murder suspect accused of stabbing his rehab acquaintance to death in 2018 was ordered to stand trial Friday, officials said.

David Alonso Figueroa, 35, of Pacoima has been ordered to stand trial for the 2018 murder of 30-year-old Brent Hariston, according to Ricardo Santiago, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

“Figueroa was ordered to stand trial on the murder charge,” Santiago said. “(He) is scheduled for arraignment on July 26.

Figueroa is accused of stabbing Hariston near the victim’s Dewdrop Avenue home in Canyon Country on July 30, 2018, according to Lt. John Corina of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau.

Around 5:30 a.m., Figueroa allegedly came to the house to pick up Hariston for work. The two met in rehab, according to Corina.

At some point, an argument broke out between the two men, Corina said during a press conference from the scene. It is unclear why the argument started, but it ended with the suspect stabbing the victim multiple times in the upper chest, Corina said.

The victim’s mother came outside to see what the commotion was, and called 911 when she saw her son had been stabbed.

When deputies arrived at the scene, the suspect had fled into the neighborhood on foot. A containment was established, and the suspect was eventually found hiding in a backyard, according to law enforcement officials.

Figueroa was taken into custody and booked on multiple charges, including murder. Bail was set at $2 million.
